It's important to have a space that radiates style while, at the same time, being comfortable, since there are many people spending more time outdoors than ever before. Whereas at one time decks were only built on certain homes, today the deck is becoming an important part of the home design. As wonderful as decks are for family and friends, screened porches are the perfect choice if you’ll only want to be there certain times of the day when bugs and mosquitoes are not present.
One reason why many homeowners are choosing to go with a screened porch is to get relief from the bugs. The warm summer months is the majority of the time we desire spending time on the deck. You deal with the hot sun during the day and the bugs at night. To get any relief from either of them, the screened porch is the perfect answer, especially if you have deck awnings as well. A screened porch is not only the perfect place for your relaxation and a great place to entertain guests, but it also adds to the value of your home.
Some considerations will be taken when deciding on the size of your screened porch. No need to spend extra money on something you won't fully utilize. For example, if you have a small family and not many guests, you won't want or need a large deck or screened porch. If you're planning to have furniture in your screened porch, situate the furniture so you know how much space you'll need to be comfortable. Keep in mind that there are varieties of choices including hexagon, square, oval or rectangle, when you decide on a shape.
What you may consider as a simple porch can easily be transformed into a screened porch with the addition of a screening and a screen door. You can purchase the screens and affix them to the porch easily if you're adding to an existing porch. If your screens are added separately to the porch, you have the option of easily removing it for the winter months.
Make sure you use some sort of lighting and electrical fixtures, since you’ll be spending time in your screened porch in the evenings as well as the daytime. You also have to ensure you have your fixtures installed as per the National Electric Code requirements, to avoid hazards. To avoid damage due to wind or rain storms, you’ll need to make provisions, and make sure you have proper drainage. Follow all these simple but necessary guidelines, and you'll have a beautiful screened porch to enjoy for years.
